Fort Smith, Arkansas (March 19, 2016) – The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened a Heartland Conference series with UAFS Saturday. The Dustdevils dropped game one 6-5, and game two 5-15. TAMIU is now 11-13 overall (2-3 HC).
Game 1: TAMIU 5, UAFS 6Ian Acosta got things started for TAMIU, lining a three run double down the left field line. Acosta would come around on a wild pitch for the fourth run. UAFS would push across three (3) in the fifth, cutting the lead to one (1).
Mario Ramirez pushed an insurance run across the plate on an RBI double, scoring
Alex Medina. The Lions came back in the bottom of the seventh to push the winning run across the plate.
Osvaldo Raya started on the mound for TAMIU, throwing five (5) innings. Raya struck out two (2), allowing three (3) runs on five (5) hits.
Game 2: TAMIU 5, UAFS 15TAMIU found themselves down early in game two. Trailing by 12 in the fourth
William Mora sent a pitch over the left field fence. Mora would pick up his second homer of the day in the seventh, driving in three (3) on an opposite field shot.
Eduardo Rodriguez took the hill in game two. Rodriguez threw 2.2 innings, striking out two (2).
Erick Garay would relive Rodriguez, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings, picking up four (4) strikeouts.
Juan Gerardo Martinez made his Dustdevil debut in the game.
The Dustdevils finish the series Sunday with a nine inning game. First pitch is set for 12 pm CST.
