LAREDO, Texas (March 22, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team played their first of four games this week on Tuesday. TAMIU was dealt a 6-14 loss to Texas A&M Kingsville at Jorge Haynes Field. The Dustdevils fall to 11-15 overall (2-4 HC).
Sergio Pollorena put TAMIU up early, launching a three-run home run in the first inning. The Dustdevils extended their leads to three (3) in the second. With
Ian Acosta on third
Mario Ramirez put a ball in play, bobbled by the Javelina second baseman. After going five innings without another run,
William Mora brought home TAMIU's fifth run on a sacrifice fly.
Alex Medina followed that with an RBI single, scoring
Jeffrey Morgan from third.
Ian Acosta went 3-5, picking up two (2) doubles and a run. Pollorena went 1-4 with three (3) RBI on the big fly. Mora, Medina, and Ramirez each added an RBI for the Dustdevils.
Nick Perales got the start for TAMIU, throwing five (5) innings. Perales struck out four (4), allowing seven (7) hits.
Erick Garay relieved Perales, throwing three (3) innings. Garay struck out (3) and gave up six (6) hits.
Daniel Edmondo threw the final inning for the Dustdevils, striking out one (1).
The Dustdevils open a Heartland Conference series on Thursday. TAMIU will take on Oklahoma Christian, first pitch is set for 4 pm at Uni-Trade Stadium.
