Pollorena picks up five hits, Dustdevils downed twice against Newman

LAREDO, Texas (April 22, 2016) – The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened up a three game series with the Newman Jets on Friday. The Dustdevils fell 3-5 in game one and 1-9 in game two. TAMIU is now 16-25 overall and 7-13 in the Heartland Conference.

Game 1: TAMIU 3, Newman 5
TAMIU jumped out to an early lead in the first inning of game one. Alex Medina drove in Cody Perez on a bases loaded single for the Dustdevils first run. William Mora would add the second run of the inning, scoring on a balk. Newman tied the game in the second and took the lead in the third with a solo homerun. Sergio Pollorena answered with his sixth long ball of the season in the bottom of the inning. The Jets added two runs in the sixth, leading to the final score of 3-5. Osvaldo Raya took the loss in game one. Raya tossed seven complete, allowing just one earned run on eight hits.

Game 2: TAMIU 1, Newman 9
An early lead in game one proved to be too much for the Dustdevils to overcome in game two. The Jets scored four runs in the first and added three additional runs before TAMIU pushed a run across the plate in the sixth. Pollorena lined an RBI single to left scoring Perez. The Jets added two more in the seventh inning. The Dustdevils used four different arms in game two. Daniel Edmondo and Nick Perales each struck out two Jets. Dustin Labit took the game two loss and Dylan Allen recorded one out in the sixth.

TAMIU will close out the series with Newman on Saturday at Jorge Haynes Field. First pitch is slated for 12 pm CST.
