Dustdevils do battle with #10 St. Mary's

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 22, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team kicked off the final regular season series with Heartland Conference leader St. Mary's University on Friday. The Dustdevils were defeated 2-3 in 10 innings in game one and 2-6 in game two. TAMIU is now 22-32 overall and 10-13 in the Heartland Conference.

Game 1: TAMIU 2, St. Mary's 3 (10 innings)
Brenda Parnin put TAMIU on the board in the first inning, driving home Chelsea Capello on an RBI double. The Rattlers picked up two runs in the fifth to take the lead. The Dustdevils battled back, putting up a run in the seventh inning. Krissy Sardelich drove in Krystal Perez on an RBI single, forcing extra innings. Neither team could bring home the placed runner through two extra frames. St. Mary's would drive home the winning run in the bottom of the tenth, taking game one. Krystal De La Cruz pitched a complete game for TAMIU, striking out 10.

Game 2: TAMIU 2, St. Mary's 6
Trailing 0-3 in the fourth inning, TAMIU used a throwing error to cut into the Rattler lead. Erika Sanchez sent a ball to short which was thrown away, allowing Brenda Parnin to score. Sanchez cut the lead to one in the sixth, driving in Brittany Mussett on an RBI triple. St. Mary's responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, picking up the game two win. Delainy Thompson started in the circle for the Dustdevils. Thompson threw six innings, striking out two Rattler batters. 

TAMIU closes out the series Saturday in San Antonio. First pitch is set for 1 pm CST.
