LAREDO, Texas (April 29, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team kicked off the final homestand of the season against #3 St. Edward's. TAMIU was dealt a 0-13 loss in game one and fell 8-13 in game two. The Dustdevils move to 16-28 overall and 7-16 in the Heartland Conference.
Game 1: TAMIU 0, SEU 13
Dustdevil bats were silenced in game one of the day/night double header at Uni-trade Stadium. The Hilltoppers used two big innings and a solid pitching performance to take down the Dustdevils in game one.
Jeffrey Morgan,
Alex Medina,
Abel Aguilar, and
Ian Acosta collected TAMIU's four hits, Medina also drew a walk in the ballgame.
Osvaldo Raya started game one, tossing four innings.
Nick Perales threw the final three innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. Perales picked up five strikeouts in his appearance.
Game 2: TAMIU 8, SEU 13
A wild game that included eight combined errors ensued in game two. After falling behind 1-0 in the first, TAMIU battled back to plate three runs in the bottom of the inning. Medina drove in
William Mora on an RBI single to center field.
Nathan Halas followed that with a two RBI triple down the left field line.
Sergio Pollorena and Medina would score on the triple. The Hilltoppers used a pair of four run innings to jump out in front of the Dustdevils, TAMIU would power back to score five runs over three innings to cut into the lead.
Cody Perez and Morgan would drive in runs in the sixth. Perez would come into score on a passed ball for the final Dustdevil run.
Dustin Labit suffered the game two loss, tossing 3.2 innings, picking up a strikeout.
Daniel Edmondo would relieve Labit in the fourth. Edmondo tossed 3.1 innings, allowing just two hits.
Justin Diaz pitched the final two innings. Diaz allowed just one hit, holding the Hilltoppers scoreless in the eigth and ninth.
TAMIU closes out the series Saturday at Uni-trade Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1 pm.
Saturday features fun for the whole family at Uni-trade Stadium. Pitmaster Tony Vedia will be hosting a BBQ luncheon beginning at noon. All proceeds will benefit the TAMIU Student Veterans Association. Before first pitch the Dustdevils will honor their five seniors on Senior Day. The Senior Day ceremony is set to begin at 12:45 pm.
