LAREDO, Texas (April 5, 2016) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team took on Houston Victoria in a mid-week matchup on Tuesday. After taking game one earlier this season the Dustdevils fell 6-8 in the second game. TAMIU is now 15-18 overall.
Trailing by two runs early, TAMIU fired back to tie the game up in the second inning.
Alexander Cabezas drove in
Alex Medina on an RBI double.
Mario Ramirez drove in the second run of the inning, grounding out to second. UHV would come back and take the lead, scoring two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Dustdevils fought their way back into the game with a three run sixth. With one down
Sergio Pollorena launched his fifth home run of the season over the left field fence.
Nathan Halas followed that up with a double to left center.
Alex Medina would drive in two more runs with a home run of his own, scoring Halas. The Jaguars added two more runs in the seventh, pushing the lead to three. Cabezas would score on a wild pitch in the eighth, cutting the lead to two before the final outs were recorded in the ninth.
Nick Perales got the start on the mound, throwing four innings. Perales allowed two runs on four hits, picking up three strikeouts.
Justin Diaz would relieve Perales in the fifth, tossing two innings. Diaz allowed three earned runs on five hits, striking out three.
Daniel Edmondo threw one inning, allowing no hits.
Erick Garay threw the final two innings, giving up just one hit, striking out three.
The Dustdevils continue Heartland Conference play on Friday as they take on Rogers State. Coming off a three game sweep of OPSU, TAMIU looks to battle for the fourth and final spot in the conference tournament. First pitch is set for 12 pm at Jorge Haynes Field.
