LAREDO, Texas (April 8, 2016) - The Teas A&M International University Softball team picked up two wins over Heartland Conference opponent UTPB Friday. The Dustdevils won game one 4-1 and game two with a score of 5-2. TAMIU moves to 21-27 overall (9-8 HC).
Game 1: TAMIU 4, UTPB 1The key to a game one win was a pair of two run innings and solid pitching from
Delainy Thompson. Thompson threw a complete game, striking out seven Falcons, giving up just one run on four hits en route to her ninth win of the season.
Krissy Sardelich got the offense started for the Dustdevils in the second inning. Sardelich lined an infield single to short, scoring
Alyssa Acuna.
Brandi Giles would come across for the second run of the inning on a wild pitch. Up 2-1 in the sixth, Acuna lined an RBI single to left-center, scoring
Krystal Perez.
Erika Sanchez pushed the final run across with a RBI double to right field, bringing in Acuna.Â
Game 2: TAMIU 5, UTPB 2`Game two saw Freshman
Krystal De La Cruz pick up her tenth win of the season, allowing just one earned run. De La Cruz scattered seven hits and picked up five strikeouts in the win. Trailing 1-0 early in the ballgame,
Brenda Parnin tied the game with an RBI single to center, scoring
Chelsea Capello. Sanchez gave TAMIU the 2-1 advantage with a solo homerun in the second. Parnin drove in Capello in the third and fifth, putting the Dustdevils on top 4-2. Acuna picked up an RBI with a single to left, scoring Parnin, leading to the final score of 5-2.
The Dustdevils close out the three game series on Saturday at Dustdevil Field. Saturday features Dustdevil Senior Day which begins at 11:45, first pitch is set for 12 pm CST.
