Hodgson leads TAMIU to victory with two goals against Colorado Christian

LAKEWOOD, Colorado (September 4, 2016) -- Senior Forward Ryan Hodgson continued to lead the TAMIU Men's Soccer offensive efforts by netting two goals in Sunday's victory over Colorado Christian. The two goals gave Hodgson a three goal weekend, which helped the Dustdevils leave Colorado with a 1-1 record. TAMIU's 2-1 win in their inaugural contest against Colorado Christian puts the team at 1-1-0 to start the 2016 season.

A chippy battle was fought between the Dustdevils and Cougars, resulting in six yellow cards between the squads (TAMIU with 2, CCU with 4). CCU opened the scoring during the 15th minute, but their lead was only secure through the first half.

Both of Hodgson's goals were scored in the second half of play, at the 58th and 85th minutes. In the 58th minute, Hodgson took a penalty kick for TAMIU to tie the contest. Leading up to TAMIU's go-ahead goal, Hodgson put a shot on net that was blocked in the 81st minute. "His resiliency helped him put the ball in the net," said Head Coach Claudio Arias. Hodgson tallied the game winning goal four minutes later (85').

"We started slow, but fortunately, we were able to put things together in the second half," said Coach Arias. "It wasn't pretty, but we were able to pull out the win."

TAMIU's offensive efforts were supplemented by Michael Iskander and Funcia Kenneh, who each had a shot on goal. Additional shots came from Marcelo Machado, Christian Mendoza, David Martinez, Rafael Montabes, Alan Rivera and Rodrigo Zuniga.

In goal, Roberto Molina made two saves facing ten total shots, three shots being on goal. He picked up his first win as a Dustdevil.

Up next, the Dustdevils will return to Laredo to host their first home contest of the 2016 campaign. TAMIU will play Fort Hays State on Thursday, September 9 at 7:30pm.
