DURANT, Oklahoma (February 5, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team concluded play in the 2017 Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational on Sunday. TAMIU picked up a 2-1 win over Central Missouri and fell 1-9 against Midwestern State. The Dustdevils finish play 2-4.
Game One: TAMIU 2 - CMU 1
Delainy Thompson picked up her first win of the 2017 season after tossing seven innings on Sunday. Neither team would muster a run until the fourth inning of play. The Dustdevils put up two runs in the top of the inning.
Ashley Hight put the Dustdevils on the board with a two RBI single to right field.
Robi Kami and
Amanda Hinajosa would come around to score on Hight's single.
Thompson went the distance in the circle, striking out eight. Thompson allowed just three hits in the win.
Game Two: TAMIU 1 - MSU 9
TAMIU struggled at the plate in game two, picking up just one hit against Midwestern State. The Mustangs put up three runs in the second, adding six in the fourth to put TAMIU behind 0-7.
Brandi Giles would put TAMIU on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning, driving in
Brenda Parnin on a groundout to short.
Brandi Giles got the start in game two, tossing three innings. Giles allowed three runs on three hits, picking up a strikeout.
Sara Caterson threw the final two innings.
Up Next:
The Dustdevils travel to San Angelo, Texas for the George McCorkel Classic next weekend. TAMIU will take on Adams State and Angelo State on Friday, February 10.
