Dustdevils hold off Grizzlies, fall to Rambelles in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 10, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team kicked off play in the George McCorkel Classic hosted by Angelo State on Friday. TAMIU won the morning matchup against Adams State, falling in the afternoon matchup with host Angelo State. TAMIU moves to 3-5 overall. 

Game 1: TAMIU 9 - Adams State 8
TAMIU jumped out to an early lead in game one, the Dustdevils put up two runs in the first inning of play. Cassie Cannon came around to score the first run on an Alyssa Acuna groundout. Brenda Parnin would score on a groundout off the bat of Robi Kami. ASU would match TAMIU's play with two runs in the bottom of the inning before TAMIU broke the game open with a six-run second inning. Parnin drove in the first two runs on a double to right center. Kami would drive in a run with a single before Erika Sanchez doubled. Sanchez delievered a 3 RBI double, scoring Kami, Acuna, and Brandi Giles. Parnin would drive in a ninth Dustdevil run in the third inning, extending the lead to 9-2. The Grizzlies jumped back into the game with a six-run fourth, bringing the game within a run. Sara Caterson would not allow a run through the final three innings, leading to a Dustdevil win. 

Game 2: TAMIU 0 - Angelo State 4
The Dustdevil bats were silenced in game two, picking up a lone hit in the first inning of play. Kami's first inning single would be the only offense for TAMIU in game two. Delainy Thompson tossed seven innings in the circle, allowing just two earned runs on five hits, Thompson struck out one batter.

Play in the George McCorkel Classic continues for the Dustdevils on Saturday. TAMIU will take on Emporia State at 10:30am. Play Saturday concludes with a rematch against Adams State at 5:30pm.
