LAREDO, Texas (April 28, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team hosted Lubbock Christian University for a doubleheader on Friday. TAMIU lost 0-7 in game one, picking up a 1-0 win in game two, moving to 18-32 overall (12-8 Heartland Conference).
Game 1: TAMIU 0 - LCU 7
The Lady Chaps came out strong in the first game, plating a pair of runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Two runs in the third would make it a 4-0 lead for LCU before the Lady Chaps added three runs in the sixth, taking a 7-0 lead.
TAMIU was kept off the scoreboard, picking up four hits in the loss.
Sara Caterson started for the Dustdevils, tossing four and two thirds innings in the circle.
Tori Carrion tossed the final two and a third for TAMIU.
Game 2: TAMIU 1 - LCU 0
A true pitchers duel broke out in the second game in Laredo.
Neither team would plate a run through five innings as TAMIU spoiled chances for the Lady Chaps twice.
Cassie Cannon put TAMIU on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning after reaching first on a fielders choice. Pinch runner Jennelle Rodriguez came around to score from third on the play, giving the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead late.
Delainy Thompson would retire the Lady Chaps in order in the seventh inning, leading TAMIU to an important 1-0 victory.
Thompson tossed seven innings in the circle, scattering five hits while striking out three.

TAMIU will look to firm up a spot in the Heartland Conference Championship Tournament as they face LCU for a third time on Saturday. First pitch is set for 11am with Senior Day festivities beginning at 10:40am.
