LAREDO, Texas (April 5, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team hosted the nations second ranked team in Angelo State on Wednesday. The Dustdevils were dealt a 1-2 loss in game one before falling 0-8 in game two. TAMIU moves to 13-22 overall.
Game 1: TAMIU 1 - ASU 2
The Rambelles would strike first in game one, plating the first run of the ballgame in the second inning.
Neither team would plate a run until ASU pushed the lead to two in the fifth inning.
The Dustdevils would pull within a run of Angelo State in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Cassie Cannon pushed the first Dustdevil run across the plate with an RBI single to center.
Erika Sanchez scored on the play.
Sara Caterson took the circle for TAMIU, tossing seven complete innings. Caterson took the loss despite allowing just four hits, picking up six strikeouts.
Game 2: TAMIU 0 - ASU 8
A pair of three-run innings put TAMIU down early in game two. The Rambelles plated three runs in the second and third inning.
Brandy Marlett would tame the Dustdevil bats throughout. Marlett tossed four and two thirds innings before Avianna Galvan broke up the no-hitter in the fifth inning.
The Rambelles would add runs in the sixth and seventh to stretch the lead to eight.
Tori Carrion tossed seven innings in the circle for TAMIU. Carrion picked up four strikeouts and moves to 0-4.
Up Next:
The Dustdevils head back out on the road for a weekend matchup with St. Edward's University. The series comes after a three-game Heartland Conference sweep of Rogers State a weekend ago. First pitch from Austin, Texas is set for 2pm.
