AUSTIN, Texas (April 8, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Softball team closed out a weekend series with St. Edward's on Saturday. TAMIU fell 2-7 in game one before dropping a close 0-1 game in the second of a doubleheader. TAMIU moves to 13-25 overall (7-5 Heartland Conference).
Game 1: TAMIU 2 - SEU 7
A six-run third inning allowed the Hilltoppers to jump out to the first lead of game one.
The Dustdevils would respond in the sixth with a pair of runs to cut the lead to four.
An errant throw on a ball hit by
Taylor Vines allowed
Cassie Cannon and
Krystal Perez to score a pair of Dustdevil runs.
The Hilltoppers added a seventh run in the bottom of the sixth, pushing the lead back to five.
Sara Caterson took the loss in the circle. Caterson tossed six innings, striking out one. The loss moves Caterson to 4-6 on the season.
Game 2: TAMIU 0 - SEU 1
The Hilltoppers would hold the Dustdevil bats in check in game two, allowing just two hits.
The lone run in a low scoring affair was scored by St. Edward's in the third inning.
TAMIU would not plate a run over the remaining four innings, leading to a tight 0-1 loss.
Delainy Thompson took the circle for TAMIU. Thompson tossed six innings, scattering three hits.

The Dustdevils host St. Mary's for their next set of games. TAMIU will play a midweek Heartland Conference series with the Rattlers starting Wednesday, April 12.
