STOCKTON, California (May 8, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Men's Golf Team opened play in the 2017 NCAA West/South Central Regional Tournament on Monday. In the first appearance in the program's history, TAMIU currently sits in a five-way tie for 9th place overall. 

The 2017 NCAA Regional Tournament is being held at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton, California. Round 1 was played under sunny skies with a light breeze. Temperatures ranged from the mid 0's to the low 80's. 

Freshman, Parker Holekamp led TAMIU in the first round, shooting a three-under 69. Holekamp's efforts have him inside the Top 20 overall at 15th.

Travis Smith fired a two-under 70 in the first round after picking up three birdies. Smith sits 27th overall. 

Senior, Stevie Martinez fired a par 72, sitting even after 18 holes. Martinez sits just outside the Top 50 golfers in the field.

Ben Page picked up a pair of birdies in the first round but sits two-over with a 74 in the first round. 

Freshman Justin Kim fired a 75 in the first round. 

2017 marks the first NCAA Regional appearance in TAMIU Golf history. TAMIU is competing in a field of 20 teams from the NCAA's West and South Central Regions. The Top Five teams after three rounds will advance to the 2017 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship, held in Kissimmee, Florida.
