GOODYEAR, Arizona - The Texas A&M International Men's Golf Team finished 16th in the RJGA Palm Valley Classic with Senior Elvis Steen placing third individually with an impressive performance.
TAMIU competed in a three-round, 72-par, 54-hole contest over two days with 20 different teams appearing on the course.
In day one, senior Elvis Steen led the pack in first place individually going five under par in the first 10 holes. He finished the day tied for sixth place with rounds of 67 and 70, going a total of seven under par.
Senior Juan Monckeberg finished day one tied 23rd individually with rounds of 72 and 69 going a total of three under par.
Freshman Caleb Guerra (74/74) finished day one four over par and Freshman Francisco Aceves (73/76) finished day one five over par. Junior Theodor With finished day one three over par with rounds of 75 and 72.
In day two during the final round, Elvis Steen collected five birdies in a row without a single bogey moving him up three spots tying him for third with three more holes to go.
Juan Monckeberg finished his final round on par, making his three-round total of three under par (72/69/72=213).
Caleb Guerra finished three over par in the final round, making his three-round total of three over par (74/74/75=223). Francisco Aceves finished eight over par after three rounds going (73/76/80=229) in the contest. Theodor With (75/72/85=232) had two great rounds to begin the contest but the final round of 85 placed him 13 over par in the final round.
As a team, the Dustdevils finished the contest going two over par (286/285/295=866) placing them 16th out of 20 teams. Chico State won the RJGA Palm Valley Classic going 39 under par with Colorado State Pueblo placing second going 28 under par.
The Dustdevils Men's Golf Team plays next in the Lone Star Conference tournament April 20-22nd in Rockwall, Texas.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Senior Elvis Steen, from Plano, Texas, had his best performance in his college career going 11 under par in three rounds of play, tying third individually. Steen collected an eagle and five straight birdies in two days of play. Elvis is the son of Steve and Julie Steen and is currently pursuing a degree in Psychology.
