CANYON, Texas (February 16, 2018) – Texas A&M International University softball fell 8-0 to #13 West Texas A&M on Friday afternoon on the first day of the WTAMU Invitational at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.

Lindsey Smith went 1-for-2 for the plate extending their hit streak to five games. The loss drops the Dustdevils to 2-11 while the Lady Buffs improve to 8-1.

The Dustdevils return to action tomorrow when they take on UC-Colorado Springs at 12 p.m. followed by a rematch against the Lady Buffs at 4 p.m. Links to live stats and video can be found on the softball schedule page at GoDustdevils.com.

A one-out walk in the bottom of the first inning by WT's Kourtney Coveney set up the first run of the game as Ashley Hardin doubled to center field at the next at-bat making it 1-0 for the Lady Buffs.

The Dustdevils put two runners on with two outs in the top of the second when
Alyssa Acuna singled to right field followed by a single to second from
Erika Sanchez. They were unable to get any runners across as
Brandi Giles grounded out to end the inning.
Melanie Lint had her best inning of the game in the bottom half of the inning sitting the Lady Buffs down in order.

WT broke the game open in the third with four runs making it 5-0 after Suk Van Gurp and Coveney both singled with one out. Van Gurp scored on a throwing error that moved Coveney to third and allowed Hardin to reach base. Kylee Moore made the Dustdevils pay taking a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left center for her sixth of the season.

Maddison Schofield reached base for the first time of the game in the top of the fourth with a single up the middle.
Lindsey Smith followed suit with a single of her to WT's Kilee Halbert giving her a hit in five straight games. The Dustdevils were unable to move the runners as Acuna and Sanchez lined out to end the threat.

Shanna McBroom's three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth ended the game for the Dustdevils as they were shutout for the second time this season.

Lint (0-4) allowed eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits and two walks while striking out a career-high.
