LAREDO, Texas (April 6, 2018) - The Texas A&M International University Baseball team opened a four-game series with Oklahoma Christian on Friday at Jorge Haynes Field. The Dustdevils won game one on the fourth walk-off of the season before falling in game two. TAMIU moves to 12-19 overall and 4-6 in the Heartland Conference.
GAME 1: TAMIU 6 - OC 5
Ruben Solis got the nod in game one on Friday. Solis tossed four and two-thirds on the mound, striking out five Eagles. Solis would be relieved by
Mauro Luna in the fifth. Luna would toss two-thirds of an inning before
Coleman Butler tossed the final inning and two-thirds. Butler would pick up his first win of the season after the fourth walk-off of the season for the Dustdevils.
TAMIU pulled ahead early behind an RBI double from Ceasar Espinoza in the first.
Ricky Gonzalez followed that up with an sacrifice fly, plating Espinoza as the Dustdevils went up 2-0.
Jorge Napoles sent his first homerun out of Jorge Haynes Field after the sac fly, putting TAMIU ahead 3-0 after an inning of play.
Mathew Trevino would serve as the Dustdevils fourth different seventh inning hero on Friday, driving home the winning run in the seventh. With the game tied at five, Trevino lined an RBI single through the left side, scoring Espinoza for the 6-5 win.
GAME 2: TAMIU 5 - OC 10
Eric Cleveland took the mound for TAMIU in game two, tossing three innings for the Dustdevils.
Nick Montemayor would relieve Cleveland, tossing two innings on the mound. Montemayor would take his first loss of the season before
Mark Trimble tossed the final four innings.
The Dustdevils used another three-run first inning to pull ahead 3-1 in game two. RBI singles from Gonzalez and Napoles put TAMIU ahead 2-1 before
Abel Aguilar drove home Gonzalez on an RBI double.
Down by seven runs, the Dustdevils picked up a run in the sixth after
Adrian Castillo drove in
Jesse Phipps. The Dustdevils fifth run came in the eighth after Phipps scored on a throwing error.
