Box Score LUBBOCK, Texas -Â Texas A&M International baseball (8-15) fell to Lubbock Christian (14-7) in the first of a four-game non-conference series with a 10-4 decision on Thursday.
The Chaps got on the board early in the first inning as a ground out to the shortstop scored the game's first run. They would add two insurance runs in the second with a two RBI single, giving them an early 3-0 lead.
The Dustdevil bats woke up in the fifth inning as they were able to cut into the lead 3-2. A throwing error by the third baseman allowed Daniel Espinoza to score for the first run. Phillip Sanchez brought home Hunter Trinidad for the second run with a RBI single.
LCU responded in the bottom half, retaking the lead 7-2 with four runs in the frame. An error by the pitcher allowed the first two runs to score. A RBI triple would score another run, with a RBI single bringing home the final run of the inning.
The Chaps added another run in the sixth off a RBI double, and added two more in the seventh with a two RBI double for a 10-2 lead.
In the eighth inning, TAMIU would get one run back as Jorge Napoles drove in Andrew Holsey with a RBI single. Sanchez brought in Adrian Castillo for the final run in the ninth, bringing the final score to 10-4.
Ryan Johnson (6-0, 7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K) earned the win. Ruben Solis (0-5, 5.0 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB 1 K) took the loss.
The two squads will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.Â
