Dustdevils Set Program NCAA Win Record Defeating LCU 3-1

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International volleyball set a program record for wins in season since joining NCAA Division II, taking down Lubbock Christian, 3-1, for win 16 on the year.

The first set belonged to Lubbock Christian (9-14, 5-7 LSC) who won by a score of 25-18, using a late 7-2 run to take the set.

TAMIU (16-5, 7-1 LSC) bounced back to take sets two through four. In set two, the Dustdevils took the win 25-20, thanks in part to a 7-1 run early in the set to settle in a seven point lead.

In set three, it was even throughout until late, when TAMIU used a 6-0 run to hold a 21-15 lead. However, the Lady Chaps pushed through with a 6-0 run of their own to tie the set 24-24. The Dustdevils would scored the only two points from there to close out the set 26-24.

The final set saw TAMIU trailing 19-13 just over midway through. The Dustdevils would score seven of the next eight points to tie the set 21-21 and then seal the game 25-23.

Leading the way for TAMIU offensively was senior Megan Menchaca who had 21 kills. Graduate student Mackenzie Catalina put a double-double performance together with 17 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Giulia Hortelan had 12 kills and 17 digs for the double-double, with sophomore Lixai Perez having the team high of 19 digs.
