TAMIU Drops First LSC Contest Of Season To DBU

DALLAS, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball suffered its first loss in conference play, falling to DBU 3-0 to conclude the weekend road trip.

The Dustdevils (14-5, 5-1 LSC) were tested early and just couldn't find their groove throughout against one of the top teams in the Lone Star Conference.

In set one, TAMIU was doing the damage early, holding a 15-10 lead past the halfway point. However, the Patriots (16-3, 7-1 LSC) would use a 13-0 run and 15-1 run overall the remainder of the set to take a 25-16 victory.

Set two saw DBU hold a 14-7 lead after utilizing a 6-0 run, but TAMIU trimmed the deficit to 15-13 with a 6-1 run of its own. The Dustdevils just couldn't bring the set any closer than a two-point deficit and fell 25-20.

TAMIU trailed early set three, by a score of 13-7. A 4-0 Dustdevil run trimmed the deficit to 13-11, but again the Patriots took over, outscoring TAMIU 12-3 down the stretch, including a 7-0 run to end the game.

Sophomore Giulia Hortelan was the leader on offense with 10 kills, while graduate student Mackenzie Catalina and senior Meagan Menchaca had five each.

Hortelan, alongside sophomore libero Lixai Perez and freshman setter Emma Lade led the team with four digs each. Perez had three service aces, while Lade added 24 assists to her stat line.

The Dustdevils return home for another weekend slate of LSC action, beginning on Friday, Oct. 14 against Eastern New Mexico for Youth Volleyball Night. Opening serve from the KCB is slated for 6 p.m.
