LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International University men's basketball head coach
Mac McConnell announced the signing of
Matthew Okoye to the 2022 recruiting class.
From Houston, Texas, Okoye joins TAMIU after beginning his career at Weatherford College under Coach Chris Lewis.
At his time at Weatherford College, Okoye started 27 of the 28 games last season and averaged 16 points per game. Throughout the season 28 games, Okoye average a 49.8% field goal percentage and a 37% 3-point percentage. On the season, Matthew put up a total of 439 points and was named to Second Team All-Conference.
Okoye chose to play at TAMIU because of the competitive nature and the drive that is instilled in every athlete to be better every day when they show up. TAMIU felt like home to Matthew and is a place that he sees himself thriving under Coach McConnell.
As Okoye starts his career at TAMIU, he will be pursuing his Bachelors in Kinesiology.
