LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International volleyball opened its 2022 home schedule and alone Star Conference play in front of a packed KCB and for the first time since 2015 defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville, 3-1.
 
TAMIU (10-3, 1-0 LSC) dropped the only set it did in the game in a 25-20 set win for the Javelinas (6-6, 0-1 LSC) to open the contest.
The Dustdevils bounced back, feeding off the rowdy KCB crowd en route to a 25-22 set two win and then a thrilling 26-24 set three victory.
 
In the final set, TAMIU trailed 23-22 late, but a game changing timeout swung the momentum to the Dustdevils. The game would end up tied 23-23 out of the timeout and then TAMIU scored the set and match points in succession to close out the Javelinas.
 
Graduate student 
Mackenzie Catalina led the Dustdevils with 17 kills on the offense end and 16 digs for a double-double. Senior Meagan Menchaca added 15 kills, while sophomore 
Giulia Hortelan had 12.
 
Sophomore 
Lixai Perez led the team with 31 digs, Hortelan earned her double-double with 20 and junior 
Daniela Sandoval chipped in with 18 digs.
 
Freshman setter 
Emma Lade had a double-double of her own with 50 assists and 13 digs.
 
TAMIU has a quick turnaround as it opens its LSC road schedule on Friday, Sept. 16 against Western New Mexico. Opening serve from Silver City, N.M. is set for 7 p.m. CST/6 p.m. MST.
