Laredo, Texas – Texas A&M International golf signed two student athletes on Wednesday as Kiara Therese Zaldivar Montebon from Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines joins the women's team and Juan Pablo Benavente Pedrero from San Luis Potosi, Mexico will join the men's team.
Kiara Therese Zaldivar Montebon had an impressive high school career. She was the winner of the 2023 JGFP Mindanoa Golf Championship Senior High School Division and placed Top 10 at the 2021 US Kids Teen World Championships at Pinehurst and Top 10 at the 2020 Philippine Ladies Open. She also qualified for the 2023 FCG Callaway Junior World Championships
"We are all very excited to sign a player of Kiara's caliber," head coach Rudy Gonzalez said. "It's a major plus when can get one of the top golfers of a country. She has tremendous skill set, and excellent student, and a great person overall. We look forward to her development and success and we are proud to call her a Dustdevil"
Pablo Benavente Pedrero also had an impressive high school career.
He is one of the Top ranked juniors in Mexico and most recently won the Under Armor Tour Championship in Florida. He qualified for the IMG World Championship winning the Mexico qualifier and also qualified for Mexican Tour Professional events as an Amateur
"Juan Pablo is a really solid golfer with a tremendous future," Gonzalez said. "Really strong work ethic with International tournament experience. We look forward to some good things on the course from Juan Pablo in our highly competitive division."
