Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Texas A&M International couldn't overcome a slow start Friday night, falling 72–62 to Colorado Mesa at Brownson Arena despite a strong second-half push.
Caylen Goff Brown led the Dustdevils with 16 points, knocking down five 3-pointers. Gaius Mervin M'Ella added 12 points and four rebounds, and
Omarion Shackelford provided eight points off the bench as TAMIU shot 47% from the field and 39% from deep.
Colorado Mesa opened the game shooting 57% in the first half and built a 22-point lead early in the second. The Dustdevils responded with improved perimeter shooting and a 7–0 run late, but couldn't close the gap. TAMIU outscored the Mavericks' bench 21–17 and held a slight edge in second-chance points.
The Dustdevils' defense forced 12 turnovers, converting them into 15 points, but Colorado Mesa countered with efficient free-throw shooting (15 for 19) and a 32–26 advantage in the paint.
TAMIU never led in the game but held Colorado Mesa without a field goal for the final 3:41.
The Dustdevils return to action tomorrow afternoon, Saturday November 28th, against Western Colorado University.
