Amarillo, Texas – After the first round of NCAA Division II West Regional play at Tascosa Golf Club, Texas A&M International University's
Zoe Wuermli finds herself tied for first place individually, while the Dustdevils as a team are tied for second heading into Wednesday.
Wuermli led the way for TAMIU, carding an even-par 71 to share the top spot on the individual leaderboard. The Dustdevils showed strong team depth with solid performances from
Ebba Nordin and
Margret Nyamukondiwa, who each shot 78 (+7) and are tied for 23rd overall.
Kiara Montebon posted a first-round 81 (+10), while
Emilynn Tran rounded out the lineup with an 82 (+11).
The round was marked by challenging conditions and multiple weather-related suspensions, but TAMIU maintained composure and finished the day in strong position to contend for a spot at nationals.
"We're really proud of our girls for battling through tough conditions and multiple suspensions of play,"
Rudy Gonzalez said. "We're excited to be in a strong position heading into the final day, and we're ready to give it our best shot at advancing."
The final two rounds of the tournament conclude Wednesday, weather permitting, with TAMIU eyeing a spot at the NCAA Championships.
