TAMIU Falls in Doubleheader at Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Texas A&M International dropped both games of a Sunday doubleheader at Texas A&M-Kingsville, falling 3-1 in the opener and 6-3 in game two at Vernie and Blanche Hubert Field.

In game one, the Javelinas struck early with a two-run home run in the first inning and never trailed. Texas A&M International answered in the second when Krysta Ruiz singled and later scored on an RBI single by Nevaeh Herrera, trimming the deficit to 2-1.

The Dustdevils threatened throughout the game, collecting five hits, including two from Sessy Moreno, but stranded seven runners. Kingsville added an insurance run in the fourth to secure the 3-1 decision.

Kylie Goad went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings with two strikeouts.

In the second game, TAMIU jumped out to a fast start, plating three runs in the top of the first. The rally was sparked by walks and capped by a Victoria Espinoza at-bat that resulted in three runs crossing the plate, giving the Dustdevils an early 3-0 lead.

Kingsville answered with four runs in the third inning to take the lead, then added two more in the fourth to extend the advantage to 6-3. The Dustdevils were held scoreless the rest of the way, finishing with four hits in the game.

Miley Vinton led TAMIU at the plate in the nightcap, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Sessy Moreno and Isabella Perez also recorded hits for the Dustdevils.

Texas A&M International moves to 4-9 (0-2) on the season following the doubleheader.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Sessy Moreno, Sophomore, comes to Laredo from San Antonio, TX. She is the daughter of Deyanira and Zaragoza Moreno. Sessy is currently pursuing her degree in Kinesiology.

Moreno provided one of the most consistent offensive performances of the day for the Dustdevils, collecting three hits across the two games. She went 2-for-3 in the opener and added another hit in game two, reaching base multiple times and helping spark scoring opportunities for Texas A&M International. Moreno's steady presence at the plate and ability to get on base highlighted TAMIU's offensive efforts in the doubleheader.
