LAREDO, TEXAS   The Lone Star Conference has selected TAMIU Senior Juan Monckeberg to receive the honor of Golfer of the Week after placing first in the Oak Tree Invitational Tuesday.  

Monckeberg finished on top in the Oak Tree Invitational with a 1-over-141 (72,69) in 36 holes of play.  His second round of play tied the tournaments low (69). Monckeberg had an impressive outing with two birdies in each round of play, including an eagle in fifth hole of round two.  

Juan Monckeberg, Senior from Santiago, Chile, now has collected four top 10 finishes, and two 1st place finishes in his career at TAMIU. The last time Monckeberg finished on top was the Yellowjacket Invitational last season.  

Rodolfo Gonzales, Head Coach of Men's and Women's Golf, spoke about Monckeberg's performance this week.  

"Juan seemed very calm, yet excited to compete. The conditions were some of the worst we have seen this season, and he adapted very well and executed the shots needed." 

Monckeberg and his teammates had to compete in single digit temperatures in round one of the Oak Tree Invitational.  

Coach Gonzales has been helping Juan Monckeberg improve in his time here at TAMIU stating that;  

"Juan has become a much more mature, manages emotions well, and simply has become a smarter golfer. He is very dedicated to his game and that is what high performers do. Juan is a high performer." 

Juan Monckeberg is not only a high performer on the golf course but is a high performer in his coursework currently pursuing a degree in Business Administation.
