LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas A&M International dropped both games of a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to Lubbock Christian on Sunday at Maner Park, falling 8-0 in five innings and 9-2 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Lubbock Christian 8, TAMIU 0 (5 innings)
Lubbock Christian set the tone early and never let up, scoring in every inning en route to an 8-0 run-rule victory.
The Chaparrals plated two runs in the first inning and added two more in the second, capitalizing on walks and timely hitting to build a 4-0 lead. A two-run homer in the third extended the advantage, while additional runs in the fourth and fifth closed out the contest.
TAMIU was limited to just one hit in the game, a single from Queenandra Dunn, as LCU's Alexis Clark tossed a complete-game shutout with four strikeouts.
Nevaeh Herrera took the loss in the circle for the Dustdevils, allowing four runs in 1.2 innings of work.
Game 2: Lubbock Christian 9, TAMIU 2
In the second game, Lubbock Christian again struck early, using a pair of solo home runs in the first inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead before adding three more runs in the second.
The Dustdevils found some offense midway through the game. Victoria Espinoza delivered a solo home run in the fourth inning to get TAMIU on the board, and Klarisa Martinez later scored on an LCU error in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-2.
However, LCU responded with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by another two-run home run, to pull away for the 9-2 final. The Chaparrals totaled 11 hits, including multiple home runs in the contest.
Kylie Goad was charged with the loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned) over 4.1 innings.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Victoria Espinoza provided a bright spot for the Dustdevils across both games, highlighted by a solo home run in Game 2 to put TAMIU on the board. The center fielder finished the doubleheader with multiple hits and accounted for one of the team's two RBIs on the day, while continuing to be a steady presence defensively in the outfield.
