Rodriguez attended IDEA College Prep in Mission, Texas were she played volleyball and basketball. She was named Best Server from 2014-17, the 2014-15 Athlete of the Year, Defensive Basketball Player of the Year in 2014-15, Volleyball All-Star game MVP in 2014 and 2015, RGV Juniors Offensive Player of the Year in 2014-15, Juan Diego Volleyball Tournament MVP in 2014-15, Volleyball MVP in 2013-14 and 2014-15, Offensive Player of the Year in 2016-17, and South Texas Volleyball West Division All-Divisonteam in 2016-17. 

Personal:
Rodriguez is the daughter of Myra Garza and granddaughter of Maria Alicia Garza. Mya chose TAMIU for its multi-cultural environment, the opportunity to study abroad, low student to faculty ratio, the proximity to home, and to play volleyball. Her most inspirational figure is her Mom. After TAMIU Mya wants to research Psychology at a large University and become a psychology professor. In her free time, Mya enjoys volunteering at her local library, reading, watching movies, hanging out with friends, and spending time with family.
