Box Score 2 LAREDO (February 19) – The no. 4 Angelo State Rambelles flexed their offensive muscles in Tuesday afternoon’s doubleheader versus the Dustdevils, combining for 25 hits and 23 runs in a two-game sweep over the TAMIU softball team.
Angelo State took the opening game 12-2 via the mercy rule, scoring runs in every inning except the fourth taking advantage of five TAMIU errors. The Dustdevils collected ten hits in the opener but stranded nine runners on base and finished 3-12 with runners in scoring position.
For ASU Rachel Moore provided the power going 3-for-4 with two home runs. Laurn Smith finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI's and three runs scored. The senior hit her first home run of the season with a two-run blast in the fourth inning.
Kyndall Reaves pitched four innings for the Dustdevils before giving way to Mariena Gallardo. Reaves allowed nine runs on 11 hits with a walk and Gallardo allowed three runs on three hits in two innings of work.
Kristen LaBuhn and Chelsea Capello each recorded two hits for TAMIU, while Cassandra Deleon tallied two RBI.
ASU took the late game 11-0, another run-rule win, behind the performance of pitcher Sandra Serna who allowed only two hits and struck out four in a complete game shutout.
The Rambelles scored two runs in the first inning before exploding for nine runs in the third to put the game away.
Ambra Hill highlighted the third with three-run shot to left field. Maddy McGarity, Kacie Easley and Morgan Spearman all got hits in the inning and the Rambelles were walked twice and hit by a pitch.
TAMIU starter Salina Mitchell allowed 10 runs on seven hits through 2.1 innings, before Gallardo stepped in and surrendered the final run.
Desiree Ortiz and Gallardo were the only TAMIU players to register a hit.
TAMIU falls to 9-11 on the season with their fourth tournament of the season upcoming. The Dustdevils will travel to Austin this weekend to participate in the St. Edward’s tournament. TAMIU will face off against Texas Woman’s University and Texas A&M Kingsville on Saturday, before meeting those same teams again on Sunday.
