TAMIU Falls Twice Despite Fast Start in Game 2

Denton, Texas — Texas A&M International dropped both ends of a Lone Star Conference softball doubleheader at Texas Woman's on Saturday, falling 3-0 in Game 1 and 8-3 in Game 2 at Dianne Baker Field.

Game 1: TWU 3, TAMIU 0

TAMIU was held to just one hit as Texas Woman's pitcher Randi Crawford tossed a complete-game shutout with 13 strikeouts.

The Pioneers struck early, scoring twice in the first inning behind an inside-the-park home run from Marissa Espinoza and capitalizing on a Dustdevils error to make it 2-0. TWU added an insurance run in the sixth to seal the 3-0 decision.

Kennedy Griego accounted for TAMIU's lone hit with a double, while the Dustdevils drew just two walks and struck out 13 times as a team.

Nevaeh Herrera went five innings in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits while working around six walks in the loss.

Game 2: TWU 8, TAMIU 3

The Dustdevils jumped out to a fast start in the second game, plating three runs in the first inning. RBI hits from Kennedy Griego, Queenandra Dunn, and Krysta Ruiz helped TAMIU build an early 3-0 lead.

Texas Woman's answered in the third inning with a three-run double from Madison Lux to tie the game, then took control in the fourth on a three-run home run by Espinoza to go up 6-3.

The Pioneers added two more runs in the sixth to create separation and secure the sweep.

TAMIU finished with six hits in Game 2, with Dunn leading the way with a 2-for-3 performance and a double. Griego and Ruiz each added RBIs in the effort.

Kylie Goad took the loss after allowing six runs over five innings.
