Debrow’s No Hitter Drops Dustdevils

Box Score AUSTIN (April 12, 2013) – St. Edward’s University starting pitcher Sarah Debrow threw her first career no hitter Friday afternoon, lifting the Hilltoppers to 4-0 win over TAMIU.

Debrow finished with nine strikeouts and had a perfect game going through two innings before issuing her only walk of the game to Salina Mitchell.  The Dustdevils fell to 17-30 on the season (4-6 HC), while the Hilltoppers improved to 21-16 (6-1 HC).

TAMIU remains two and a half games ahead of Newman University for the fourth and final playoff spot, with a doubleheader against St. Edward’s set for Saturday afternoon at 12 p.m. at Diane Daniels Field.

St. Edward’s took the early lead taking advantage of an error by TAMIU third baseman Desiree Ortíz to advance the leadoff batter to second base.  After a wild pitch moved the runner to third, a bunt single gave the Hilltoppers a 1-0 lead.

Two consecutive two-out hits in the third allowed St. Edward’s to add to their lead.  Lauren Brode singled to right field before coming around to score on a double to right field by Ally Valdez.

The Hilltoppers strung together three more hits in the sixth to make it a 4-0 game.  Valdez singled to center field and then scored on a double to left field by Tori Gonzalez.  Brianna Bozon then plated Gonzalez with single back up the middle.

Mariena Gallardo (5-5) starterd in the circle for the Dustdevils allowing eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
