Softball Splits With Oklahoma Christian

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAREDO (April 19, 2013) - Texas A&M International and Oklahoma Christian split a nonconference doubleheader on Friday at Dustdevil Field on a sunny Laredo afternoon.  OC took the opener 10-3 before TAMIU stormed back for a 14-6 run-rule win in game two.

TAMIU trailed 2-0 in the opener until taking the lead in the bottom on the fourth on the strength of a solo home run by Mariena Gallardo and a two RBI double by pinch hitter Desiree Ramos

That 3-2 lead would not last long, however, with Oklahoma Christian answering with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to retake a 5-3 lead.  TAMIU had a double by Chelsea Capello in the fifth inning and a single by Esmeralda González in the sixth inning but could not score to cut into the Lady Eagle lead.  OC blew the game open with five runs scored on six hits in the top of the seventh inning to build a 10-3 lead.

Kyndall Reaves (6-10) took the loss for TAMIU.  She allowed five runs on six hits in 4.2 innings of work.

TAMIU jumped out to a big lead in game two with a six run second inning to take a 6-2 lead.  The Dustdevils sent 10 batters to the plate in that frame with Reaves, Gonzalez and Olivia Garcia starting the scoring with RBI singles.

Rochelle Nash then came to bat with the bases loaded and one out.  She delivered with a double that drove in two runs with an addition run scoring on an infield throwing error to push the Dustdevil lead to 6-2.

Oklahoma Christian would chip away at the lead before eventually tying the score with two runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Nash then pushed TAMIU to an 8-6 lead with a two RBI single in the bottom of that frame.

Gallardo led off the bottom of the fifth with a pop out to shortstop but the Dustdevils then loaded the bases with three straight singles by Cassandra DeLeon, Reaves, and Gonzalez.  Garcia then walked with the bases loaded, scoring Deleon to provide TAMIU with a 9-6 lead.

Kristen LaBuhn then contributed a bases loaded two RBI single with an additional run scoring on an outfield throwing error, pushing the Dustdevil lead to 12-6.  Capello then flew out to left field but Nash ended the game early with a two-run home run shot over the center field fence to provide the home team with a 14-6 lead.

Nash was in top form in her return to action after missing several games due to injury.  She contributed six RBI in the game two win and went 5-for-8 in the doubleheader.

Gallardo earned the win for TAMIU (18-33) in game two.  She allowed only two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks in 5.0 innings in the circle.  Six TAMIU errors led to four unearned runs scored by OC (19-21) against Gallardo.
