Late Homer Gives St. Mary's Sweep Over TAMIU

LAREDO (April 6, 2013) - Texas A&M International and St. Mary’s played another tight game on Saturday afternoon at Dustdevil and it was the Rattlers whom secured a series sweep over the Dustdevils with a 4-2 win.  St. Mary’s won today’s game with a seventh inning home run, thus winning the final two games of the series with offensive production in the sixth or seventh innings.
 
Each team collected one hit apiece through three scoreless innings before St. Mary’s broke the tie on solo leadoff home run by Jared Gonzalez in the top of the fourth inning.  Cassandra DeLeon answered for the Dustdevils with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to give the Dustdevils a 2-1 lead.
 
St. Mary’s scored an unearned run in the fifth inning to tie the score 2-2 before taking a 4-2 lead on a two-run home run  by Christina Rodriguez in the top of the seventh inning.  Esmeralda González singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh for the Dustdevils but the next three batters went down in order to end the game.
 
Mariena Gallardo took the loss in a relief role.  She allowed two runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.  Sarah Johnson pitched well in a no-decision outing.  She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with one strikeout and three walks in 5.2 innings in the circle.
