GAME 1: TAMIU 7, East Central 1
The Dustdevils walloped the Tigers with five runs in the third inning to smash a scoreless tie. A pair of insurance runs in the fifth stood steady enough to cement the victory in the morning's game.
TAMIU senior pitcher Kyndall Reaves (1-0) delivered a complete-game 3-hitter, allowing a run while striking out three and walking two. She helped her own cause, going 1-for-3 at the plate with a RBI single in the third inning.
Four other Dustdevils went 1-for-3, but it was Cassandra De Leon's bat that made the most noise. She belted a 2-run home run over the left-center field wall in the fifth frame. Krissy Sardelich (R, 2RBI), Chelsea Capello (2R, RBI) and Esme Gonzalez (R) each went 1-for-3.
Brittany Parnin smacked a double and also stole a base.
GAME 2: TAMIU 9, Angelo State 8 (8 innings)
Late heroics by Brittany Mussett led to the Dustdevils extra-innings victory on Saturday. She sailed a double to left-center field in the top of the eighth inning to score De Leon, allowing Mariena Gallardo (1-0) to pitch a 1-hit final inning for the win.
Sarah Johnson pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and eight runs while striking out two. Gallardo then pitched two innings with a strikeout, a walk and a hit allowed.
Capello took her turn with a 2-run homer in the first inning, finishing the day 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three batted in.
