WICHITA, Kan. – Texas A&M International's seven-game stay spanning five days in Kansas reached its final three contests, starting on Friday, with a Heartland Conference showdown with Newman. The Dustdevils (12-21, 5-3 Heartland) and Jets (11-12, 2-6 Heartland) split the afternoon's doubleheader with a 3-2 TAMIU win followed by a 3-1 Newman result.

The Dustdevils and Jets will conclude with the 3-game series' final chapter on Saturday at noon.

GAME 1: TAMIU 3, NU 2

In a road trip that saw the Dustdevils outscored 45-15 in its opening four games against Emporia State and Washburn, respectively, TAMIU ignited it's rebounding win with a pair of RBI extra-base hits in the second inning and an exclamation point of a home run in the sixth inning.

It began for TAMIU after Sarah Johnson produced a base-loaded escape from the pitcher's circle in the bottom of the first inning. Mariena Gallardo led off the second with a walk, setting up Brenda Parnin's RBI triple off the next at bat. A pair of strike outs couldn't advance Parnin from second, but her twin sister, Anna Parnin, did the trick with a RBI double deep down the left field line.

Johnson retired the six subsequent batters, but ran into drama in the bottom of the fourth inning. Newman shot a pair of solo home runs over the left field fence, tying the game with two swings.

But it was a Dustdevil home run that left the most impressive mark. Brittany Mussett took her lead-off batting position in the sixth inning as far as she could with a bomb over the left field wall. Gallardo doubled as the next batter, but was stranded at second.

Brenda Parnin led the line up with a 2-for-3 day with a run and RBI, while Cassandra De Leon (1-for-3), Mussett (1-for-3), Gallardo (1-for-2) and Anna Parnin (1-for-2) each stroked a hit. The Parnin twins each stole a base.

Johnson (3-6) went the distance with seven full innings, allowing just seven hits and two runs while striking out six and walking just one.

GAME 2: NU 3, TAMIU 1

The Jets got to Dustdevils starting pitcher Gallardo early, scoring once in the second, third and fourth innings – securing Jensen Cromer's first victory of the season.

TAMIU tied the game at 1 in the top of the second inning, but it would only hold into the next half inning. Kyndall Reaves led off with a walk and was immediately bunted over to second by an Anna Parnin sacrifice. Reaves stole third and scored two batters later when Esme Gonzalez singled to right. Gonzalez stole second base but was stranded there.

Gonzalez, Gallardo and Cassie Garcia were the only Dustdevils with hits, spread one apiece across the line up.

Gallardo (5-9) took the loss with a complete-game six-inning performance. She allowed eight hits, three runs and just one walk while striking out three.
