Box Score SAN ANGELO, Texas – Texas A&M International took a break from its Heartland Conference schedule to visit No. 25 Angelo State for a 3-game non-conference showdown. Wednesday's doubleheader saw TAMIU drop to 9-15 (2-1 Heartland) after a 12-8 game 1 loss and a 19-0 game two loss.
The Dustdevils will return to Dustdevil Field to host Heartland opponent, Rogers State on March 7-8 with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on March 7 and a single game at 11 a.m. on March 8.
GAME 1: No. 25 ASU 12, TAMIU 8
The Dustdevils wasted no time, scoring a run with just their second batter. Esme Gonzalez led off with a single and was plated when Brenda Parnin blasted a RBI double to right-center field. The next three Dustdevils were retired.
Angelo State tied the game in the bottom of the first and stretched that lead to 6-1 after a 5-run second inning. Another single run in the third and five more in the fifth secured the Rambelles the victory, despite TAMIU's comeback efforts.
In the top of the third, Brittany Mussett reached via a single to center and Chelsea Capello then singled to left. A monster Mariena Gallardo three-run home run pulled the Dustdevils within two runs of the Rambelles, but the Dustdevils scored only once more in the game.
In the top of the seventh, Mussett and Capello drew a pair of back-to-back 1-out walks before advancing up a base each on a passed ball. Gallardo walked to load the bases and Kyndall Reaves recorded a RBI as Mussett scored on a groundout to third.
Kyndall Reaves took the loss after going six innings with 13 hits allowed and 12 runs – six earned. She walked one and struck out one.
GAME 2: No. 25 ASU 19, TAMIU 0
TAMIU fell in the final game of the 3-game series, allowing the Rambelles to score a pair of runs in the first and second innings, nine in the third and six in the fourth innings.
Gallardo took the loss from the pitching rubber after going 3 1/3 innings with 13 hits allowed and 15 runs. She walked seven before being relieved by Xcaret Ramirez, who pitched 2/3 of an inning with two hits and four runs allowed.
Reaves, Gonzalez and Cassie Garcia were the only Dustdevils to reach base, with Garcia leading the day thanks to a two-bagger.
