Box Score 2 LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas A&M International visited Heartland Conference newcomer Lubbock Christian for a softball doubleheader on Friday, dropping both games 6-5 and 2-0, respectively.
The Dustdevils (16-25, 8-6 Heartland) and Lady Chaps (34-8, 13-4 Heartland) will close the three-game series on Saturday at 11 a.m.
GAME 1: LCU 6, TAMIU 5
The Dustdevils took the early 1-0 lead in the third inning, eventually stretching it to 3-0 before the Lady Chaps scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. TAMIU plated two more runs in the seventh inning, but LCU put a run across in the bottom half of the final frame for the win.
Kyndall Reaves fell to 5-8 on the year with the complete-game six-inning performance with a strike out, two walks, four hits allowed and six runs – four earned – allowed.
Four Dustdevils – Esme Gonzalez (2-for-4), Brenda Parnin (2-for-4, 3RBI, R), Reaves (2-for-4) and Desi Ramos (2-for-4, RBI) – roped more than one hit. Brittany Mussett (1-for-4), and Anna Parnin (1-for-2, R, RBI, walk) each record a hit as well. Reaves and Brenda Parnin each stroked doubles, while Brenda and Anna Parnin both hit home runs.
GAME 2: LCU 2, TAMIU 0
The game remained knotted and scoreless until the Lady Chaps plated single runs off extra-base hits – a RBI double and home run, respectively – in the fourth and fifth innings.
Mariena Gallardo fell to 6-10 on the season after pitching six innings with three strike outs and no walks. She allowed seven hits and just the two runs.
The Dustdevils recorded only a hit through the game, coming by way of Reaves – who went 1-for-2. Only Cassandra De Leon reached base other than Reaves, via a walk.
