GAME 1: TAMIU 1, TAMUK 0

The pitchers punctuated the game throughout, with all three – TAMUK's Carlie Clark (4-16) and TAMIU's Sarah Johnson (6-8) and Kyndall Reaves – combining to allow just eight hits. Clark took the loss with 6 2/3 innings pitched with five strike outs and three walks.

Reaves started the game, going four innings with two strike outs, three walks and just two hits allowed. Johnson pitched the final three innings, recording the win with a strike out, two walks and two hits allowed.

Four Dustdevils went 1-for-3, including Esme Gonzalez, Chelsea Capello, Brittany Mussett and Reaves. Three others reached base via walks, including Cassandra De Leon, Mariena Gallardo and Brenda Parnin.

It was Reaves that ended the game, playing hero with a double to the deepest part of center field to score the deciding run.

Mussett led off the final frame with a single to left field. She eventually reached second base with two outs after a strike out and a ground out advanced her. She was then pinch run for by Samm Gutierrez.

Reaves blasted her game-winning RBI over the centerfielder's head, propelling Gutierrez home to end the game.

GAME 2: TAMUK 9, TAMIU 1

TAMUK ignited to victory after a two-run first inning and three more runs came in the second. The Javelinas held a 7-0 advantage before TAMIU plated its first and only run of the game in the third inning. They added two more runs to their tab, winning 9-1, with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings.

In the third, Mussett stroked an infield single with two outs, immediately followed by a Gallardo walk that moved Mussett into scoring position. That's when Parnin unloaded a double to left field, plating Mussett before the inning was ended.

Again the Dustdevils mustered just four hits. They came off the bats of Parnin (2-for-3, RBI), Gonzalez (1-for-3) and Mussett (1-for-3, R). Gallardo and Cassie Garcia drew a pair of walks.

Gallardo (6-11) started the game and took the loss with three innings of work. She struck out two, walked four and allowed seven runs – four earned – on seven hits. Capello relieved her with a pair of walks, five hits and two runs – one earned – over three innings of work.
