Box Score St. Edward's defeated Texas A&M International 7-2 in Heartland Conference Tournament action on Saturday afternoon at St. Mary's University, knocking the Dustdevils out of postseason play. TAMIU had defeated UT-Permian Basin earlier in the day to set-up the championship qualifying showdown with the Hilltoppers.
St. Edward's took the lead on a three-run home run off the bat of Faith Roberts against TAMIU starter Sarah Johnson. TAMIU would cut the lead to 4-2 on a two run homer run by Mariena Gallarado in the fourth inning but that is as close as the Dustdevils would get. SEU would put the game away with a three-run sixth inning.
Johnson, who earned the win earlier today against UTPB, took the loss against the Hilltoppers. She allowed four runs on six hits in 3.0 innings of work.
TAMIU ends its season with a 20-36 overall record. The Dustdevils made their sixth straight Heartland Conference Tournament appearance this year.
