STEPHENVILLE, Texas (February 1, 2016) – The Texas A&M International Softball team opened the 2016 season against the nationally ranked Tarleton TexAnns. The Dustdevils were dealt an 11-3 loss in game one and a 10-3 loss in game two. The Dustdevils are 0-2 after today's double header.
Game 1: Dustdevils 3, Texanns 11The Dustdevils struck first in game one. With runners on second and third
Krissy Sardelich singled to left field, scoring
Cassie DeLeon. Two at-bats later
Taylor Vines recorded an RBI single to center, scoring
Alyssa Acuna. The Dustdevils final run was scored with two outs in the second.
Chelsea Capello reached first on a fielder's choice, scoring
Anna Parnin.
Vines and Sardelich each recorded one (1) hit and one (1) RBI.
Game 2: Dustdevils 3, Texanns 10Facing a 7-0 deficit in the sixth inning, the Dustdevils pushed three (3) runs across the plate. With runners on second and third Brittany Musset hit a three-run home run to left field, cutting the lead to four (4). The TexAnns added three (3) more in the bottom of the inning, leading to the final score of 10-3.
Mussett finished 1-3 at the plate, driving in three (3) RBI on the home run. Vines went 2-3 at the plate, recording two (2) singles.
Krystal De La Cruz made her first collegiate start, pitching 6 innings for the Dustdevils.
TAMIU's next game will be Friday February 5, taking on Adams State. The Dustdevils will be playing in the 2016 ASU George McCorkel Challenge. The three (3) day tournament is hosted at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. First pitch is set for 10:30 am.
