TAMIU splits on first day of Rattler Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 19, 2016) – The Texas A&M International University Softball team kicked off play in the Rattler Invitational Friday. The Dustdevils defeated Oklahoma Christian in game one but were dealt an extra innings loss against Central Oklahoma.
 
TAMIU exploded for 10 runs in game one. With the bases loaded in the second, Taylor Vines lined a double to left center field. Krystal Perez, Anna Parnin, and Brandi Giles scored on the play, putting TAMIU up 4-0. Parnin went yard in her next at bat, driving in three (3) runs on the home run. The Dustdevils added two (2) more runs in the fifth, fighting off a late rally to win the game.
 
What started as an offensive showdown turned into an entertaining game two. The Dustdevils and Bronchos each scored three (3) runs in the first three (3) innings. Neither team pushed another run across until the eighth frame. TAMIU put one (1) on the board, before the Bronchos pushed across two (2) in the bottom of the inning, leading to the final score of 5-4.
 
Vines went 2-7 on the day, driving in six (6) RBI. Parnin had one (1) hit, driving in three (3) runs, crossing the plate four (4) times. Krissy Sardelich recorded one (1) hit and two (2) RBI.
 
Delainy Thompson picked up the win in game one, throwing seven innings. Thompson allowed 11 hits, striking out two (2). Krystal De La Cruz started game two, pitching 5.2 innings. De La Cruz worked around trouble, allowing just three (3) runs on 13 hits.  Giles threw the last 1.1 innings, allowing one (1) run on four (4) hits.
 
The Dustdevils will continue play in the Rattler Invitational on Saturday. TAMIU faces #12 St. Mary's at 1:15 pm and #10 Tarleton at 3 pm.
