SAN ANTONIO, Texas (February 20, 2016) – The Teas A&M International University Softball team wrapped up play in the Rattler Invitational with an upset over #10 Tarleton State. The Dustdevils were dealt a 0-6 loss in game one against host, #12 St. Mary's. TAMIU is now 9-12 overall.
Game 1: Dustdevils 0, Rattlers 6The Dustdevils faced a challenge in game one against #12 St. Mary's. TAMIU finished the game with just three (3) hits.
Taylor Vines,
Krystal Perez, and
Anna Parnin accounted for the three (3) Dustdevil hits.
Delainy Thompson started game one, pitching six (6) innings. Thompson allowed five (5) runs on seven (7) hits, striking out two (2).
Game 2: Dustdevils, 9, Texanns 2The key to the game two win was a five-run fourth inning. The first run came across on a bases loaded walk, scoring
Anna Parnin. Vines and Perez scored on an error by the Texanns, forced by a hit from
Brittany Mussett.
Chelsea Capello followed that with an RBI single, scoring Mussett. Mussett added an RBI single in the sixth, followed by a
Brenda Parnin home run in the seventh.
Krystal De La Cruz picked up her seventh win in the circle. De La Cruz threw seven (7) innings, allowing just two (2) runs on nine (9) hits.
TAMIU will end a 21 game road trip with a three game series against Rogers State on February 26. The series will kick off Heartland Conference play. First pitch is set 12 pm at Dustdevil Field.
