SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 6, 2016) -- The Texas A&M International University Softball team moved to 2-1 in the George McCorkel Challenge Saturday morning. The Dustdevils defeated Northwestern Oklahoma 11-7. TAMIU moves to 2-3 on the 2016 season.
The key to the win was a five (5) run sixth inning.
Alyssa Acuna started the scoring with an RBI single.
Anna Parnin lined a single to left, scoring
Alyssa Soneff and
Chelsea Capello.
Krystal Perez added a 2 RBI single of her own, scoring Parnin and Acuna. The Rangers scored one in the top of the seventh before TAMIU recorded the final out.
DeLeon continued her dominance at the plate, going 3-4 at the plate. DeLeon had a home run and crossed the plate three (3) times. Parnin went 3-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and one (1) run scored. Capello added a double with 2 RBI and two (2) runs scored.
Krystal De La Cruz and
Brandi Giles combined in the pitching effort for TAMIU. De La Cruz picked up the win, pitching 4 innings. De La Cruz finished with two (2) strikeouts, giving up just two (2) runs on six (6) hits.
The Dustdevils will be back in action at 5:30 pm CST. TAMIU will take on Adams State. This will be the second time the teams face off, the Dustdevils won the last meeting 11-3. You can view the ASU George McCorkel Challenge schedule by clicking
