Schofield Hits First Career Home Run in Loss to UC-Colorado Springs

CANYON, Texas (February 18, 2018) – Maddison Schofield connected on her first career home run while Alyssa Soneff drove in two runs as the Dustdevils fell 12-4 to UC-Colorado Springs on the final day of the WTAMU Invitational at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas. The loss drops the Dustdevils 3-13 on the season while UCCS improves to 6-6.

The Dustdevils have a quick turnaround with a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Texas A&M-Kingsville. A link for live stats can be found at GoDustdevils.com under the softball schedule page.

Schofield got the TAMIU off to a great start as the junior hit her first career home run in the top of the first. Cannon leadoff the game with a single to the left side of the infield before Schofield sent the ball deep over the wall in right center giving the Dustdevils a 2-0 lead.

They added to their lead in the top of the third on a two-out double to center field by Soneff. Melanie Gamboa and Schofield reached base with one out before moving over to second and third on a ground out by Maya Paul. Soneff cleared the bases taking the 1-1 offering deep to center extending TAMIU's lead to 4-0 over UCCS.

UCCS broke the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth scoring 10 runs on 12 hits and one to take a lead 10-4 lead. TAMIU loaded the bases in the top of the fifth but a line drive double play ended the threat. The Mountain Lions scored two more in the bottom half of the inning on a triple from Whitney Weber and sac fly from Alex Cook as TAMIU fell 12-4 in five innings.

Lint (0-5) went 3.2 innings giving up nine runs on 12 hits while striking out two. Tori Carrion and Sara Caterson each pitched a third of an inning in relief.
