LAREDO, Texas (April 7, 2018) – Freshman pitcher went the distance for the seventh time this season as the Texas A&M International University softball team defeated Rogers State 5-1 on Saturday afternoon to sweep the three-game series. The series sweep helped the Dustdevils (17-27, 14-10 HC) leapfrog the Hillcats for fourth in the Heartland Conference standings

TAMIU 5, Rogers State 1
The Dustdevils scored first for the second time this series on a two-out single up the middle by
Maddison Schofield in the bottom of the first.
Samantha Edmiston started the inning with a double off the wall in left before coming around to score on Schofield's single. They would add a second in the next inning following a leadoff single by
Alyssa Acuna. The senior would move to second on a beautiful bunt by
Robi Kami to put runners on first and second with no outs. A
Brandi Giles sac bunt advanced both runners a base followed by a sac fly to center from
Melanie Gamboa making it 2-0 after two complete.
A three-run fourth busted the game wide open for the home team as Acuna opened the inning with her second single of the series finale. Kami dropped another nice bunt to advance Acuna to second. Giles and Gamboa loaded the bases with one out with a back-to-back singles followed by a two-run RBI from
Cassie Cannon. Edmiston would pick up her first RBI of the game at the next at-bat with a ground out the to second.
The Hillcats would get one back in the top of the fifth courtesy of a two-out single by Allie McFetridge. The visitors would later load the bases but
Melanie Lint got Taylor Santistevan to fly out to Cannon in center.
Melanie Lint (8-8) went the distance allowing one run (one earned) on three hits and eight walks while striking out four.
