LAREDO, Texas (April 10, 2018) – Texas A&M International University took the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against No. 18 Tarleton State 4-1 giving the Dustdevils their first win over a ranked opponent at home since April 12, 2017.
Maya Paul drove in two runs and
Melanie Lint pitched four innings as TAMIU handed the TexAnns their first non-conference loss of the season.

TAMIU 4, Tarleton State 1
TSU's Georgia Capell took the third pitch of the game over the fence in left field giving the TexAnns an early 1-0 lead. The visitor's lead didn't last long as the Dustdevils stormed back to take a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second on five hits.
Lindsey Smith led off with a double off the wall in center field followed by an
Alyssa Acuna single up the middle,  who moved over to second on the throw. Smith tied the game at 1-all on a beautiful squeeze bunt in front of home plate from
Robi Kami. Following a
Brandi Giles walk,
Melanie Gamboa laid down another successful bunt to plate Acuna.
Cassie Cannon singled to left to load the bases with one out. Following the second out of the inning,
Maya Paul singled up the middle to plate two more runs for the Dustdevils.

Melanie Lint (9-8) picked up her third win in three appearances allowing one run (one earned) on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
Tori Carrion picked up her first career save allowing two hits with one strikeout in three innings of relief.Â

Tarleton State 6, TAMIU 0
The TexAnns struck first for the second consecutive game on a Maddie Qunitanar's single up the middle in the top of the second. They broke the game wide open in the top of the fifth inning scoring three runs on four hits and one error. The Dustdevils looked to respond  in the bottom half of the inning after loading the bases with one out.
Alyssa Contreras singled to start the inning followed by a walk by pinch hitter
Erika Sanchez.
Acacia Salinas loaded the bases after reaching base for the second time of the game. Schofield came on as a pinch hitter looking to tie the game with one swing of the bat but was unlucky as her had hit ball down the third base line was corralled by Karli Herron for an inning ending double play. Â

Delainy Thompson (7-12) was saddled with the loss allowing one run (one earned) on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
Sara Caterson pitched three innings out of the bullpen allowing five runs (two earned) on 10 hits and two walks.Â
