Box Score 2 COMMERCE, Texas - Texas A&M International softball opened a top 10 weekend road trip against #9 Texas A&M-Commerce, but unfortunately fell in both games 5-0 and 4-1.
Game 1: #9 Texas A&M-Commerce 5 Texas A&M International 0
The Lions did all their damage in the bottom of the third, plating three runs, before adding two more in the bottom of the sixth.Â
TAMIU's offense only managed to put one runner in scoring position, the lone threat to cross in the game.
Junior Darrian Smith started in the circle and allowed five runs, eight hits, two walks and six strikouts.
The Dustdevils collected three hits offensively, with graduate student Victoria Maldonado, junior Heather Ruiz and freshman Sara Papizan all having one each.Â
Game 2: #9 Texas A&M-Commerce 4 Texas A&M International 1
TAMUC once again jumped ahead in the second inning, taking a 2-0 lead.Â
TAMIU would respond with its lone run in the top of the third thanks to an RBI hit from Maldonado.Â
The Lions added two more runs in the fourth inning to add insurance to its lead.Â
Papizan started game two and in the complete game allowed four runs, four hits, six walks and struck out five.Â
The Dustdevils would outhit TAMUC, 6-4, with graduate student Melanie Gamboa and sophomore Victoria Gonzalez leading the charge with 2-for-3 showings.Â
TAMIU concludes the road trip on Sunday, Apr. 3 against #2 UT Tyler in Tyler, Texas. Game one is slated for 11 a.m.
