Aguero Leads Dustdevils to Fourth-Place Finish in Sheridan

SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Texas A&M International University women's golf finished fourth overall at the Travis Roy Memorial Invite in Sheridan, Wyoming, completing the three-round tournament at 80-over.

The Dustdevils recorded team rounds of 29-over, 17-over and 34-over, with their second-round 17-over marking their best team performance of the tournament.

Colorado State-Pueblo captured the team title at 59-over, while Westmont and Westminster (Utah) tied for second at 61-over. TAMIU followed in fourth, six strokes ahead of fifth-place Augustana (S.D.).

Paulina Aguero led the Dustdevils individually, tying for ninth at 17-over. Aguero opened with a 6-over 78 before firing a 2-over 74 in the second round, her best round of the tournament. She closed with a 9-over 81 to secure the top-10 finish.

Nemo Cheewasupakorn finished one stroke behind Aguero in 11th at 18-over. Cheewasupakorn carded rounds of 80, 74 and 80, with her second-round 2-over 74 matching Aguero for TAMIU's lowest round of the tournament.

Pilar Ariaudo tied for 14th at 21-over, opening the tournament with a 5-over 77 before recording back-to-back rounds of 80. Her opening-round 77 was the lowest score by a Dustdevil during the first 18 holes.

Agathe Lacoste tied for 18th at 24-over after rounds of 82, 77 and 81. Her second-round 77 contributed to TAMIU's strongest team round of the tournament.

Lisa Hashem rounded out the Dustdevils' lineup, tying for 56th at 55-over with rounds of 96, 87 and 88.

TAMIU made its biggest move during the second round, shaving 12 strokes off its opening-round team score. Aguero and Cheewasupakorn led the effort with matching 74s as the Dustdevils posted a 17-over round.

Head coach Rudy Gonzalez was pleased with the team's performance and Aguero's collegiate debut.

"Team had a solid fourth-place finish," Gonzalez said. "Freshman Paulina Aguero played very well in her first event as a Dustdevil. Very excited to see her comfortable, confident and competitive in her first collegiate showing. She has a very bright future ahead of her!"

TAMIU concluded the Travis Roy Memorial Invite with four golfers finishing inside the top 20, highlighted by Aguero's tie for ninth in her collegiate debut.
