2017 Third Team All-Heartland Conference 

2017:
Montabes had a strong junior campaign where he earned All-Heartland Conference 3^rd Team honors after making 17 appearances including 15 starts. He ranked first on the team in assists (4) with his lone goal of the season coming in overtime against Newman on Oct. 21. The Spaniard ranked 29^th in the nation in shots per game (3.88) with his total of 66 for the season ranking as the fifth most in a single season in program history. His 25 shots on-goal are tied for the seventh-most in program history. 

2016:
Montabes had an impressive sophomore season registering 727 minutes on the pitch during 16 appearances and seven starts. He finished with the second most goals (6) and points (12) on the team while registering 37 shots with 16 of those being on-target for a .432 shot on goal percentage. The Spaniard recorded his first multi-goal game on the final day of the season with two first half goals within seven minutes of each other in a 6-1 victory over St. Mary’s. He played a career-high 80 minutes against West Texas A&M on Sept. 22.

High School: Everest High School
Montabes played (3) years for his high school as a striker.

Personal: Rafael Montabes is son of Lucia and Rafael Montabes as he is joined by his two siblings Paco and Lucia. Montabes decided to come to Tamiu becuase he believes that this is the university in which he can achieve his goals. His most inspirational figure are his parents. His future aspiration is to become a professional soccer player. In his spare time, Montabes enjoys playing football as well as spending time with family and friends.
